Leisure Time in Our Community - Religious Attendance

The chart shows the percentage of the adult population who are members of a religion and the percentage of the population that attend religious services. Adult religious membership and attendance has remained fairly steady over the years. A little more than half of those claiming membership in a religion actually attend religious services.

During most years, as religious membership increased, so did attendance, and vice versa. In 1992-1993, however, membership went up, but attendance went down. The opposite was true for 1988 and 2000. In both of these years, membership was down, but attendance went up from the previous year. Therefore, there isn't always a direct relationship between membership in a religion and attendance at religious services.

The next panel discusses youth religious attendance.
